The Hurley Family Foundation strives to help children reach their potential through the sport of basketball.
To help our kids stay in basketball shape, we are putting together a series of quick, one-minute videos demonstrating popular drills we do in the clinic that can also be done at home.
These drills can be done individually and incorporated into your own workout routines. Or they can be done all together to create a new 45-60 min workout. Thank you Coach John for explaining and executing the drills with the kids.
Drill #1, Kelly Olynyk, the Gonzaga graduate and current Miami Heat F/C, shoots 100 of these shots a day @kellyolynyk
This drill can easily be done at home, in your bed, while waiting for dinner, etc. You simply have to lie down on your back; shoot 7-10 ft in the air; snap your wrist; and look for backspin. With enough practice, you'll be ready to take your big shot once the games resume!
Drill #2, WALL SITS will develop a strong core that will help your defensive prowess, will assist you in finishing drives to the basket, and also fortify everyone’s favorite: long range shooting.
Drill #3, WIZARDS BALL POUND. These drills will help strengthen your hands, wrists, and forearms. They will help your jump shot and help you develop quick hands for defense. But particularly, they will make the game more beautiful by helping you become artful passers.
Drill #4 & #5, Prone Figure 8 and Standing Figure 8
Drill #6, SUCCESSIVE PUSH UPs, SQUATs, & BURPEES. These drills will help you get more bounce in your game, help develop your twitch muscles, and help you turn good defense into instant offense!
Drill #7, CHRIS PAUL CONTINUOUS DRIBBLE. This drill will help you blow by your opponent as well as enhance your own creativity. We can’t wait to get back to the gym to do this drill all together once more. Keep working. Stay safe. And we’ll see you again soon!
Drill #8, JUMP ROPE. These classic drills give us the agility and the stamina to do what we do best: play hard every minute, keep the pressure on, & run ‘em out of the gym! Keep working. Stay safe. And we’ll see you again soon!
Drill #9, HARDEN / WESTBROOK BALL HANDLING provides practices that will improve the strength of your ball handling. These drills will help you explode to the basket like the NBA's Harden and Westbrook.
